With the rapid spread and influence of the steelband throughout Trinidad and Tobago in the late 1940’s, it became necessary to organize and streamline its operation.  The necessity saw steelbandsmen coming together in 1949 to form The Steelband Association of Trinidad and Tobago.  The name of the Association went through changes to suit the dynamics of a changing cultural landscape before adopting the name Pan Trinbago in 1972. This organization soon gained the respect of the Government and was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1986.

In order to effectively serve its wide geographic membership, Pan Trinbago is divided into four (4) autonomous regions  viz:  North,  East,  South/Central and Tobago, which report to a Central Executive.  Pan Trinbago was awarded the country’s highest award, - The Trinity Cross – for its outstanding contribution to the community.
